The Phantom Lands
Made in a team of eight, The Phantom Lands is a survival game where the player must navigate themselves around the world, collecting resources, finding spells and upgrading their base and abilities. It includes an upgrade system, a dynamic weather system, a day/night cycle and a stat management mechanic. My role in this project was mostly focused on world design, in which I gained a lot of in-engine and world-building experience in Unity. To help the player navigate I designed the world to be unique in each area, with points of elevation from which the player can see points of interest. To make sure there was an element of discovery kept in the game, paths are windy and hills are rolling, breaking lines of sight and maintaining a sense of adventure. Systems design was also a focus of mine, and although limited by resources and time we did our best to create an interconnected survival system of magic, health and stamina, which all connects back to how the player interacts with the world as they explore.
